Shire Meetings

Shire meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at the Round Table Pizza, 3567 Geary Boulevard near the corner of Arguello Blvd. Meetings begin around 7 PM and last until about 9 PM. Our meetings are open to anyone interested in the SCA and we invite you to attend. We do not wear garb to meetings, so don't worry about being out of place.

The first meeting of the month is our Shire business meeting. We use the term "business" loosely as our meeting may include reports from past events, information about upcoming events,updates on special projects, and good, old fashioned gossip! Shire "business" is usually handled fairly quickly and we get down to the real function of the meeting: socializing. This is a great time to learn about what we do and to work out arrangments for attending events.

The second meeting of the month is usually our "Arts and Sciences" Meeting. This meeting is devoted to a guest lecturer who has been invited to speak on a topic related to some aspect of the Middle Ages. This may be a history lecture, a how-to demonstration or a report on a shire project. Many times the speaker is a member of the Shire who is sharing research they have done or skills they have learned.

The Shire also has activities besides the meeting: fighter practices, garb making sessions, armor making workshops, and informal get togethers like "movie nights." These are organized by individual members and are usually open to all members of the Shire and their guests.

Directions

1. from the North, via the Golden Gate Bridge...
   1. Proceed south on the Golden Gate Bridge.
   2. As you approach the toll booth, get into the far right hand lanes.
   3. After the Toll Booth, take the 19th Avenue/Park Presidio Boulevard exit and proceed through the MacArthur Tunnel to Anza Street.
   4. Turn right onto Anza Street, go one block to 14th Avenue, turn right on 14th, then right on Geary.
   5. Go up Geary until you pass Arguello and start looking for parking.

2. from the South, via Interstate 280...
   1. Proceed north on Interstate 280 to the end of the freeway staying in the left hand lanes.
   2. Follow the flow of traffic left, through the 's-curve' onto 19th Avenue.
   3. Follow 19th Avenue through Golden Gate Park, following the 's-curves' there onto Park Presidio Avenue.
   4. Get into the right hand lane and turn right at Geary Boulevard.
   5. Follow Geary Boulevard until you pass Arguello and start looking for parking.

3. from the South, via Highway 101
   1. Proceed north on Highway 101 following the signs for the Central Expressway / Golden Gate Bridge.
   2. Follow the Central Expressway to its end at the OctaviaStreet exit.
   3. Follow Octavia St. until it ends and turn left onto Fell Street 
   4. Proceed west up Fell Street to Stanyan Street and turn right.
   5. Follow Stanyan Street north to Geary Boulevard, turn left and start looking for parking.

4. from the South, via The Great Highway
   1. Proceed north on Great Highway, following it up past the Cliff House and onto Geary Boulevard east.
   2. Follow Geary Boulevard until you pass Arguello and start looking for parking.

5. from the East, via the San Francisco Bay Bridge...
   1. Proceed west from the Bay Bridge onto Highway 101, staying in the right hand lanes.
   2. Take the Golden Gate Bridge  exit and follow it to the its end at Octavia Street.
   3. Follow Octavia St. until it ends and turn left onto Fell Street 
   4. Proceed west up Fell Street to Stanyan Street and turn right.
   5. Follow Stanyan Street north to Geary Boulevard, turn left and start looking for parking.
