Come learn how to command your minions properly. On Tuesday, May 27th, we'll learn to create Official Writs (in medieval England, official writs were written commands given by one person to another -- the king to a sherriff, a baron to his steward, an archbishop to a monk). Here's a sample writ: "I, Henry, King of the English, to the abbot of Ramsey, greeting. I forbid you to do Hugh Oilard anything but right, no matter what writ might be produced. Witness: the Chancellor. At Glouster." This is a hands-on workshop: you'll be provided with writ-scrolls made from vellum-like paper, and wax seals with the device of the Shire of Cloondara. During the session, you'll have the opportunity to create copies of actual medieval writs in Latin or in English, or generate writs of your own. Please bring your favorite ball-point pen or fine-line marker, or, if you're a calligrapher, ink and quills (a very limited supply of ink and nibs will be available at the meeting). Also, you might prepare a writ or two ahead of time that need to be delivered to and enforced upon your wayward minions. "Official Writs" is an A&S category at June Crown. There are no material fees for this class.
Class starts at 7 PM.
