The Shire of Cloondara (San Francisco, Ca.)
November 18, 2006/11:00am
Gate opens at 10:00. Opening ceremonies at 11:00 followed immediately by the quest!.
location: Elk Glen in Golden Gate Park
Site fee: $5 ($10 Family). Repast $10 Non-members add $3.
(The Hospitallers of St. Bahb the Martyr will subsidize the Non-members fee.)

The Shire of Cloondara announces a quest. The Chalice of Cloondara is to be returned. It will be gained by the most chivalrous of champions.
There will be many trials along the way. There will be many fights as well as subtler tests. Your endeavors will include a lady in distress and a
barrier fight with a Giant (two large, fierce warriors fighting as one). You may request a “counted blows” bout of 1, 3, or 5 blows at any contest.
The day will end with a Grand Melee! All in a beautiful tree girded field.

This is a challenge, not for victory, but for chivalry. A “Challenge of Peace”. As such, there will be no authorization fights.

Gentles everywhere are invited to witness the sport and admire the gentility of the combatants and ladies. The gallery will help to select the fighter and lady that have best exemplified the Chivalric and genteel virtues by the awarding ribbons.

The ladies are not to be overlooked for their contributions to the values we strive to achieve. The ladies will direct a riddle quest and participate in events of their own for the enlightenment of the fighters and gallery. A separate set with ribbons will be given to ladies that show the noble qualities we wish to encourage.

The day’s leading Lord and Lady will be determined by the number of ribbons they have received.

Following the Quest, there will be an outdoor repast complete with food, drink, and merriment. The populace will be encouraged to relate stories of what they experienced during the day. And, perchance, some of the fine bards amongst us will honor us with music to round out the evening. Bring your heavy cloaks. A November evening may be chilly. The repast menu will be posted here as soon as possible or contact the autocrat for details.

In order to create the perfect atmosphere for the quest; banners, pavilions, and your finest armor and garb are encouraged. Letters of intent are most welcome and will be posted on this web page. Fighters will be asked for opening comments on their reasons for their participation. These could include chivalry, honor, adventure, and their consorts. Or any other motivations they feel important.
